As April rolls around, I find myself often thinking of the old childhood rhyme, ‘April’s Showers Bring May Flowers’. It’s a nice little reminder that with all this crazy weather, something bright and happy is just around the corner. So I imagine these showers of April as a beautiful choir, summoning all the warmth and beauty to rise up and live once again. And with it’s chorus I feel something inside of myself awaken. Longer days. The buzz of people gathering outdoors. And I feel renewed. There’s just something special about the warmth, that seems to put smiles on people’s faces, and also in our hearts.
So in spirit of all this warmth and happiness, it seems appropriate to giveaway some of the most acclaimed and favored books of the past year. Yep, it’s that time again! For the annual “Showers of Books” hop! This is our second year doing this giveaway and it’s one of our favorites! So go ahead and take a gander at what we have to offer you this time!
Five lucky winners will get to baste in the sun reading one of these awesome books (or perhaps snuggle inside avoiding the rain)! Normally I would say autumn is my favorite season, where the wind blows the leaves around, the colors of the leaves are breathtaking, and it finally starts getting a chill in the air. But, after this awful, awful winter we’ve had, I have to say I’m really looking forward to spring.
I totally agree on the color of leaves during Autumn. It’s like as if the nature is dressed for a grand party!
My favorite season is Winter. I just love the snow and bundling up in cute clothes (: The seasons in the book really do not make a big difference to me. As long as the story is great and the characters are relatable then we are good to go. Thank you for this amazing giveaway!
Winter is my favorite season also! Mostly for the snow, couldn’t care less for the cold though. =( Good luck with the giveaway!
My favorite season is Spring, but here in Oklahoma this year youwake up Spring one day then winter the next it is 34 degrees here today, gray and rainey you would think it was fall except for all the green grass and stuff that is growing… Oh well if I had a new book I would crawl up under the coveres on the couch and read.. Have a great day
THe weather has been pretty hectic lately, I’d say all over the world! lol But I guess the smell of fresh grass does make me want to get our more.
My favorite season is fall and I think I definitely read more and that I’m attracted to books set during that season. At least, I am attracted to books set in places that actually experience a real fall, where the leaves are turning and the air is crisp and you start to wear clothes for cooler weather. Not so much if the book is set in, say, San Diego:)
Could you recommend a book to us that has a strong Fall theme? Come to think of it, most of YA books we’ve read are based on a gloomy atmosphere….
I think any books set at the beginning of a school year are perfect fall reads. One example I can think of is probably Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park because it is set in Boston and it is one of my absolute favorite places to be in the autumn:)
While reading the Game of Thrones series, I found the hostile environment at the Wall to be the most intriguing. A lonely place populated loathsome ruffians puts one in the mind of crime and punishment, but the relentless assault of sleet and snow puts me in the mind of perpetual winter, hopelessness, and death. Of course, the tone set by the Walls environs is quite spot on; the series is riddled with political intrigue, death, the helplessness of lower-cast system living, and the destruction of lives. Something about winter and the bitter cold forces us to appreciate the warmer times, thus enhancing our lives while challenging our survival. Even snow flakes, as beautiful and delicate as they are, sting our skin and redden our upturned faces. Winter will always be a magical and dangerous time for me, representing the death of a year and the future rebirth of the world, heralded by bird song and the first sprigs of spring grasses.
Hey Vanna! If you enjoyed Game of Thrones for those reasons, I’d recommend you read a series called “Warded Man - Demon Cycle.” Can’ wait to meet you in person! =)
I will definitely give it a look-see! Thank you so much for the recommendation, Kathryn. I’m excited to finally meet you as well! I’ve heard so many wonderful things from Tiffany about your adventures together
I really love Fall. The trees, the colors, the crispness in the air. I love to read during any season..especially where I live in Southern California the weather is always nice whether it’s Janurary or June
so I like to take a blanket to the park and read
As much as I fancy reading a book in the park, I haven’t done it in years! I think Fall is a perfect time to be outdoors reading books. =) The cool breeze and the color of trees makes me feel like I’m living in a fairy tale.
My favorite season is spring, the weather starts to get warm trees get new leaves, flowers start to grow, you can have the windows open. I know that there are a lot of books that I want to read coming out in the spring early summer. I like it when the season when the book comes out matches the season in the book. Ther isn’t a book where the season sticks out.
It has not been the best Spring for the flowers to bloom in DC, but I understand where you are coming from. Let us know if you find any great books that comes out this early Summer!
I love Winter! Only because of the cold. I always tell people that I rather live in cold then live in the heat because there are more ways to warm up than there is ways to cool down.
The weather in books don’t really affect me any but I do find that I like books that have winter season in it. I recently finished reading The Unfailing Light (sequel to The Gathering Storm) where the book often takes place in the winter and I find that I can picture the scenes easier in my head.
Thanks for the giveaway!
That’s funny because Tiffany and I love Winter but not the cold!
Thanks for letting us know the book you’ve enjoyed most based on the weather, I’ve just checked out the cover and it most certainly looks cold! lol Good luck with the giveaway!
While reading the Game of Thrones series, I was most captivated by the savage and deadly environment surrounding The Wall. No seasons, no chance of relief from the merciless cold, no hope of thawing ones bones. Only bitter cold, always, without hope of reprieve. I feel that the elemental violence associated with The Wall reflects so many aspects of winter in our own world, although a bit exaggerated. Winter brings with it a magical yet dangerous feeling, much like the Wall in the series. It’s beauty is undeniable, and yet it represents the harshest and most threatening aspects of our world. Winter bestows upon us her painful yet sweet snow kisses, reddening our upturned faces and searing our lungs. She forces us through discomfort to appreciate the warmer times, times we have all taken for granted. She challenges us to survive while entrancing us with the stillness and timelessness of her embrace. We have all gotten lost in Lady Winter’s spell; standing in the snow, surrounded on all sides by silence, enveloped in an all consuming absence of color rendering our world alien. But there is something so beautiful and special about that unfamiliarity, isn’t there? That’s part of what makes winter so magical; you feel as though you have been transported to another place entirely. Despite the harshness and bitterness of The Wall, the characters always describe it’s breath taking beauty. Despite the sense of foreboding The Wall conjures, much like winter it is undeniably magical, time and again.
I love summer! I love reading in the heat, with the sun warming my skin, especially when I can read by th pool. But as for the book, I can read any season any time, any subject and I’m happy.
That’s all I do during summer when I have some spare time, read by the pool. =)
I tend to read more during the winter. When it is cold outside, I enjoy curling up with a good book by the fireplace.
Sounds lovely, Good luck with the giveaway. =)
My favorite season is spring because of the flowers and it is a time when everything comes alive again.
My favorite season is Summer. I live in a desertish region and it’s really dry in the summer so it’s easier on my back and hip. I tend to read more in the summer because I take my books with me to the pool with the kids. Since i don’t always get in the pool with them if there are a lot of other people there, and their dad is there to provide safety, I get to read undisturbed. Not the case in the other months when the pool is closed and we are at home. Then I am openly expected to participate and for some reason if I get lost in a book it is rude. (why it is not rude a the pool I will never know)
I love spring. All the new growth and vibrancy.
I recently read the Last Year Series by Trisha Leigh. Each of the four books is based around a season. It’s a great read.
What is your favorite season and why?
Autumn. I love when the weather is comfortable. Not too hot or too cold. Plus, the colors are so pretty.
Is there one that you find yourself reading more during?
Probably winter.
And in books, do the seasons within them have any affect on you? Tell us about a book you read, in which the weather or season(s) sticks out?
Can’t say the weather in books has a direct effect on me.
I like to read more in summer. I have more time on my hands.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I love spring! I love when the green starts to just shoot up out of nowhere. Although right now I haven’t seen any signs of spring in Minnesota. It’s been a long winter! I’m ready for some green and nice weather.
I always love spring-I live in a hot, dry desert, so spring here is more like other people’s summer, but it gets cool enough at night to leave my window open, and all the blooming life around is so inspiring and joyful
And a lot of YA contemporary books have the weather/season as a stand-out element: usually summer, like in Second Chance Summer (no surprise there!), The Boys Next Door, My Life Next Door, and In Honor; but also sometimes winter, like in Bittersweet, Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, and The Storyteller.
darn it . me want all . loll
winter sounds cool
My favorite season is Autumn, I love the cool air. I also love sitting on the deck reading under the smell of fresh air and woodstoves. I can’t say that seasons in books influence me in any way, I read everything! Thank you!
My favorite season is Fall, because that’s when my birthday is and I also love the cool air and colorful leaves
Summer, because that’s when I get to read the most books!
Thanks for the amazing giveaway
My favorite season is Fall. because I love the coolness of the temperatures, pumpkin everything, and of course its football season!!
I have to say Spring and Autumn. During those two seasons the weather is just perfect! I so look forward to these two seasons!! Thank you so much for a chance to win and for being a part of this fun and awesome blog hop!!
My favorite season is summer, I usually read more during that season because I have more time and I can lay by the pool. I can’t think of any books I’ve read that have been effected by the season. Thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite season… I have a really hard time picking just one. I really like both winter and summer.
I’m a huge fan of winter sports (like skiing and tubing and skating and such), so that’s kind of a no-brainer, but I also love summer because it’s so sunny and warm and you can do… summer sports (like biking and roller blading and swimming)! Spring and fall are kinda icky where I live.
I love Fall. Spring is too wet, Summer too hot, Winter too cold. I love the smell of crunched leaves and drinking hot spiced drinks.
I like something from all the seasons, couldn’t pick a favorite.
